CONTENTS:

 

1.      OPTIMUM RECEIVERS IN AWGN CHANNEL

Correlation and matched filter receivers. Optimum detector. MAP and ML detection. Probability of error for binary and M-ary signals. Antipodal, orthogonal, biorthogonal, and simplex signaling. PSK, DPSK, QAM. Optimum receiver for signals with random phase. M-ary FSK.

 

2.      CHANNEL CODING

Error detection and error correction. Coding gain. Block codes. Cyclic codes. Convolutional codes. Viterbi decoding. Soft- and hard-decision decoding. ARQ techniques. Burst error correction. Interleaving. Introduction to turbo codes and LDPC codes.

 

3.      SPREAD SPECTRUM TECHNIQUES

Direct sequence and frequency hopping spread spectrum system. Processing gain. PN codes; auto- and cross-correlation properties of PN codes. AJ and LPE properties of spread spectrum systems. Code division multiple access (CDMA). Ranging and multipath rejection.
