Hacettepe UAV Society Achieves Second Place Worldwide at SUAS 2026
October 11, 2026
SiMURGH-Y, a team from the Hacettepe University Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Society, which operates under the coordination of our Department, achieved an outstanding success by securing second place worldwide at the international SUAS (Student Unmanned Aerial Systems) 2026 Competition, held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, on September 14–17, 2026.

The SUAS competition, which brought together 64 student teams from 10 countries this year, challenges participants in advanced engineering applications, including UAV design and development, autonomous flight, obstacle avoidance, AI-based image processing, target detection, and precision payload delivery.
Developed through the collaborative efforts of students from different disciplines, SiMURGH-Y demonstrated exceptional performance in challenging mission scenarios, earning second place worldwide in the Mission Demonstration category.
This remarkable achievement once again highlights the engineering capabilities of our students in autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and unmanned aerial vehicles at the international level.
We sincerely congratulate our faculty member Prof. Dr. Dinçer Gökcen, the coordinator of the society, and all team members and wish them continued achievements.
